Our Story
Our olive oil journey began more than fifteen years ago, inspired by family, heritage, and a deep respect for the land.
Motivated by Matt’s Sicilian grandfather, Louis (Luigi) Scarlata—who produced olive oil generations ago—we planted our first olive trees with the intention of continuing a tradition rooted in craftsmanship and patience. Nearly a decade later, we proudly began producing our own extra virgin olive oil under the Scarlata family name.
As our passion grew, so did our vision. We expanded into a brick-and-mortar gourmet shop in Tracy, California, where we curated Italian specialty foods, locally sourced gourmet products, and kitchen décor. During this time, Kim regularly hosted a cooking segment from the shop on the local morning news show Good Day Sacramento, sharing recipes and celebrating the joy of cooking with quality ingredients.
Scarlata Farms quickly became known for award-winning extra virgin olive oils, flavored olive oils, and balsamic vinegars. Our oils have earned Best of Class and Gold Medals at the Napa Valley Olive Oil Competition, as well as top honors at the California State Fair and Mid-State Fair. In January 2019, we were honored to be named Tracy’s Entrepreneurs of the Year by the Tracy Chamber of Commerce.
Our Reserve Olive Oil label pays tribute to Matt’s grandfathers—Louis (Luigi) Scarlata of Sicily and John Borba, who emigrated from Portugal to farm. It was on that very land in Tracy, California, where our olive trees were originally planted—grounded in generations of hard work and agricultural tradition.
In June 2022, we closed our gourmet shop and relocated to Napa Valley, a place that has been near and dear to our hearts for over 34 years. From our very first visits decades ago, Napa felt like home—and today, we are honored to be warmly welcomed into this vibrant and passionate community.
We now harvest olive trees in Napa Valley and most recently planted a new grove in St. Helena, lovingly named Luigi & Rosa’s Grove in honor of Matt’s grandparents. This grove represents both our roots and our future.
In July 2025, we proudly partnered with Flora Springs Winery in St. Helena to offer a curated sensory experience pairing a flight of Flora Springs wines with four distinctive Scarlata Farms olive oils—a celebration of flavor, craftsmanship, and Napa Valley hospitality.
Locally, our olive oils and balsamic vinegars can be found at Eleven Eleven Winery, Oakville Grocery, V. Sattui Winery, Genova Delicatessen, Vineyard 29, and Acre Kitchen & Bar (private label). We are also honored to have been selected as the Exclusive Olive Oil for the 2026 Napa Valley Mustard Celebration for the third year in a row.
On March 12, 2024, we were proud to receive Best of Class and Gold Medal honors at the California State Fair Olive Oil Competition for our Estate Reserve Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Napa Valley is now our home, and we couldn’t be happier to be part of the special events, shared tables, and meaningful connections that food creates—both for the local community and for visitors from around the world.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
